AAN 25 – 1070 MANDATORY READ BACKS

19/06/25

Gloucester Ops have issued this AAN due to frequently experiencing home-based pilots not reading back items that are mandated to be read back (as per CAP413). The list provided relevant to us includes:

  • Taxi/Towing Instructions

  • Level Instructions

  • Heading Instructions

  • Approach Clearances

  • Runway-in-Use

  • Clearance to Enter, Land On, Take-Off On, Backtrack, Cross, or Hold Short of any Active Runway

  • SSR Operating Instructions (Transponder)

  • Altimeter Settings, including units when the value is below 1000 hectopascals

  • Frequency Changes

  • Type of ATS Service.

Also, the UKAIP requirement for outbound aircraft:

  • Upon first contact with ATC, pilots should acknowledge receipt of the current ATIS code and state the altimeter setting in use.

AAN 24 - 1089 INDEMNITY PROCEDURES - 14/07/24

10/07/24

Changes to indemnity procedures.

The 21st July 2024 will be the first full day of no ATC coverage. The airfield will be NOTAM’d as closed.

Options regarding AGCS are still being investigated for future impacted dates, but it is not possible for this to be in place for the 21st July 2024.

The airport intends to manage the day under our existing Indemnity Procedures but with additional restrictions.

For clarity, the proposed procedure is our standard Indemnity Procedure (Click here) but with a slot booking process to control the level of activity. While the notes of AAN24-1094 reaffirm this, operators should ensure they review and are fully aware of the requirements.

Recent modifications to CK

02/04/24

NEW MTOW = 472.5kg.

The modification is approved.
The POH has been amended, and for those who need the data for any software calculating app, the new Weight Report can be downloaded here. The amended POH can be downloaded here.

Installation of EFIS.

The BMAA has revised the list of different training requirements, which now includes EFIS. Next time you have a check ride with an instructor, have the annotation added to your logbook should you intend to use the EFIS.
However, we are in a unique position in that our cockpit retains the 'steam-driven' original primary instruments, so there is no need to get the annotation fi you do not intend to operate the EFIS.

GLOSTER AAN 23- 1072 - SSR CODES FOR EGBJ

25/09/23

Gloucestershire Airport has been allocated conspicuity squawk codes for aircraft receiving a service from Gloster ATC to use. The Codes will be implemented from the 5th of October 2023.

The majority of aircraft receiving a VFR service from Gloster will be instructed to squawk code 4531 and shall only be “worn” when instructed by Gloster ATC, normally as part of the taxi instructions or upon first contact when inbound.

Before leaving the Gloster frequency, the pilot will be instructed to “squawk conspicuity” (7000 VFR).

It is important to stress that the allocation of any code by a Gloucester ATCO does NOT imply that a radar service is being provided.

MAINTENANCE OF MICROLIGHT CLASS RATINGS FOR UK PPL LICENCE HOLDERS

20/09/23

If you fly CK on a UK PPL and are using the CAA exemption to revalidate, you need to read this ORS4 1582

Note: not relevant to NPPL holders.

CAA EXTEND PILOT MEDICAL DECLARATION FOR ANOTHER YEAR

19/04/23

ORS4 No.1575 is the exemption that allows holders of certain UK issued Part-FCL, Part-BFCL or Part-SFCL and ANO pilot licences to make a Pilot Medical Declaration using the alternative medical criteria, provided they reasonably believe that they meet the medical requirements for a Group 1 (Car) Licence issued by the DVLA.

This exemption has been extended for a further year, as the necessary amendment to the legislation has not been enacted.

SHARING OF THE DIRECT COSTS OF A FLIGHT. CAA ORS4 NO.1554

29/07/22

The interesting part is that there is no longer a need for proportional cost sharing, “Direct costs” means the cost (excluding any element of profit) directly incurred in relation to a flight, including:
a) the cost of fuel;
b) any charges payable in respect of the use of any airfield in connection with the flight; or
c) any rental or hire fees for the use of the aircraft.

Although clarified previously, this exemption clarifies the 'non-commercial' aspect. It states:

"The CAA, exempts, a pilot in command from the requirement to comply with the Order which applies only to a public transport or commercial operation flight and not to a non-commercial flight.
This exemption is granted subject to the following conditions:
a) This exemption only applies to flights that are not subject to the UK Regulation (EU) No.965/2012.
b) This exemption is only applicable to flights conducted within the London or Scottish Flight Information Regions.
c) All provisions of the Order applicable to a non-commercial flight must be complied with.
d) The only valuable consideration given or promised for the flight or purpose of the flight is a contribution to the direct costs of the flight otherwise payable by the pilot in command.
e) No more than six persons (including the pilot) are carried.
f) The direct costs of the flight are shared by all the occupants of the aircraft including the pilot.
g) The flight is operated by a Private Individual."

CREDIT ACCOUNT WITH AIRPORT

18/07/22

We have a credit account with the airport. Airport charges go to our account, and Mark adjusts your billing at the end of the month. When receiving fuel, tell the tanker driver to charge to account GSH. Please remember to complete the Touch & Go column on the ‘Tech log’ (do not include full stop, they are a given).
